JERUSALEM, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Israel on Thursday unveiled the 6th generation of the Spike anti-tank guided missile.
The state-owned Rafael Advanced Defense Systems said it is a new type of long-range missile of the non-line of sight, electro-optically guided series, which can be launched in a "fire and forget" manner and in a salvo of eight missiles.
Its precision can reach an extended range of up to 50 km if fired from a helicopter, or up to 32 from land and sea, said Rafael.
The missile provides real-time tactical intelligence and damage assessments, allowing it to be adjusted to targets or abort missions mid-flight, it added.
In addition, the control over launched missiles can be transferred between battlefield platforms mid-flight to facilitate coordinated operation, it noted,
For example, if a helicopter launches the missile against a high-value target but continues flying outside the area, a ground vehicle in the vicinity can take over the control and navigate the missile toward the target, Rafael explained.
Rafael's new image matching capabilities have also been integrated to enable swift aerial image transfers to the missile system. ■
