PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Eight people have been confirmed dead and 13 others injured as floods swept parts of the northern Baghlan and western Badghis provinces on Wednesday, officials said Thursday.
In the Dahna-e-Ghori district of the northern Baghlan province, four people lost their lives and eight others sustained injuries in downpours and flash floods that swept through several villages on Wednesday night, provincial director for information and culture Mawlawi Mustafa Hashimi asserted.
The floods have also badly damaged or washed away some 900 houses, the official added.
About 9,000 acres of farmlands were damaged due to the flooding on Wednesday night, the official further said.
Similarly, the flash floods also claimed four lives including two children and injured five others in the Qadis and Ghormach districts of the western Badghis province on Wednesday, provincial administration official Mawlawi Baridad Sabiri said.
Flooding also killed two people in the northern Faryab and two others in the eastern Parwan provinces on Tuesday, according to officials.
Parts of war-torn Afghanistan including the capital city Kabul experienced downpours and flooding on Tuesday and Wednesday. ■
