SEOUL, April 8 (Xinhua) -- China's Weng Hongyang booked a semifinal position in the men's singles by outplaying his Malaysian opponent NG Tze Yong 21-11, 21-12 in the quarterfinals of the BWF World Tour Korea Open here on Friday.
Elsewhere in the men's singles, third seed Indonesian Jonatan Christie defeated Thailand's rising star Kunlavut Vitidsarn, the eighth seed, 8-21, 21-17, 21-19. Fifth seed Kidambi Srikanth of India beat South Korea's Son Wan-ho 21-12, 18-21, 21-12.
In the mixed doubles, China's Ou Xuanyi/Huang Yaqiong lost to Malaysia's second seeds Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing 21-18, 21-17. South Korea's fourth seeds Ko Sung-hyun/Eom Hye-won edged seventh seeds Adnan Maulana/Mychelle Crhystine Bandaso of Indonesia 21-19, 18-21, 21-18.
In the women's singles, second seed South Korean An Se-young swept Japan's Saena Kawakami 21-14, 21-7. India's third seed Pusarla V Sindhu smashed seventh seed Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand 21-10, 21-16.
In the men's doubles, Kang Min-hyuk/Seo Seung-jae of South Korea won a hard-fought game against India's third seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty 22-20, 18-21, 22-20. Second seeds Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia ousted Choi Sol-gyu/Kim Won-ho from South Korea 21-17, 21-13.
In the women's doubles, India's fourth seeds Ashwini Ponnappa/Reddy N Sikki were knocked out by South Korean duo Eom Hye-won/Kim Bor-yeong 21-19, 21-17. ■
