SANAA, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Fighter jets of the Saudi-led coalition launched a series of airstrikes on a military camp controlled by the Houthi militia in Yemen's capital Sanaa on Monday, the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported.
The airstrikes targeted the Al-Sawad military camp in the southern part of Sanaa, the television said without providing further details.
According to residents, the explosions rocked the whole capital.
Meanwhile, the coalition said its airstrikes came after the interception of several bomb-laden drones launched by the Houthi militia overnight from Sanaa towards the southern region of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya TV reported.
The militia has recently intensified cross-border drone and missile attacks against the cities of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which is a key member of the coalition backing the Yemeni government army.
Most of such attacks were reportedly intercepted by the coalition air forces.
The militia stepped up cross-border attacks after losing several strategic districts in the oil-rich provinces of Marib and Shabwa in central Yemen.
Yemen has been mired in a civil war since late 2014 when the Iran-backed Houthi militia seized control of several northern provinces and forced the Saudi-backed Yemeni government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi out of Sanaa.
The Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened in the Yemeni conflict in 2015 to support Hadi's government. ■
