RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- A COVID-19 outbreak at Brazilian Serie A club Santos escalated on Sunday when another three first-team players tested positive for the virus.

Forward Angelo Damaceno, midfielder Sandry Goes and defender Luiz Felipe were diagnosed during routine testing on the club's first day of pre-season training, Santos said in a statement.

All were ordered to self-isolate at home, in line with Brazil's COVID-19 protocols, it added. Details of their condition were not provided.

Striker Marinho, forward Leo Baptistao and midfielder Carlos Sanchez also remain in quarantine after testing positive during the past week.

Meanwhile, midfielder Vinicius Zanocelo tested negative on Sunday and was cleared to return to training after overcoming the virus.

"In the morning [on Sunday], the members of the coaching staff underwent antigen tests," club doctor Evaldo Stanislau said. "In the afternoon, the players did likewise. Only those who tested negative were allowed to enter the training venue."

Santos will play their first match of the new season on January 26 when they visit Inter de Limeira in the Sao Paulo state championship.
